Immersion in the US

The number of schools offering immersion programs is growing across the United States as parents and school administrators realize the importance of giving their students the gift of a second language early in life.  These programs use different titles: dual language immersion (Utah), one-way immersion, two-way immersion, partial immersion, total immersion, as well as other titles specific to local areas.  Looking for an immersion program can be difficult and confusing.

Families with children in immersion programs often find it necessary to move in search of new opportunities but don’t want to give up the opportunity to continue their child’s immersion education. With the exciting growth of immersion education, it is likely they don’t have to.

The Center for Applied Linguistics, out of Washington DC, is an excellent resource to discover more about immersion education and to find schools with immersion programs across the United States. In order to locate a school that offers an immersion program, go to http://www.cal.org/resources/immersion/ where you will be able to search by school name, school district, and state. This website also offers extensive information and resources about foreign language education.
